Where to go in the Bahamas

With over 3,000 islands and cays to choose from, picking just one place to stay in the Bahamas can be a difficult decision. We recommend island hopping to experience a little of every side of the Bahamas. 

A good place to start is the capital Nassau, the main cultural hub and a place where Old World colonial charm meets 21st century Caribbean culture. Walk down streets lined with pastel coloured Georgian buildings and pick up a souvenir in the lively wooden shops of Bay Street. Learn more about the islands' colourful past at the Junkanoo museum, play golf and tennis at world class facilities and wonder along the delightful Bahamian Riviera at Cable Beach. This is also home to the islands' exotic and entrancing nightlife scene.

Connected to the capital by two bridges, the glamorous and elegant Paradise Island is home to some of the finest luxury hotels in the Bahamas. Miles of pristine white sand beaches, championship golf courses and superb diving conditions make this the perfect place to unwind. The 365 stunning islands of the Exumas, made famous by the James Bond film Thunderball, feature private island resorts and underwater reefs teeming with exotic marine life. Its movie connections don't end there, as stars like Johnny Depp have made it their second home after buying one of these little islands.

The Lucayan National Park is home to the world's largest underwater cave and cavern system. Take a private tour by kayak, paddle in the crystal clear lagoons and lunch on a private beach. This is a nature experience not to be missed.

From the great surfing spot of Eleuthera Beach to the calmer waters of Pink Sands Beach on Harbour Island, the Bahamas is home to some truly spectacular holiday spots. 

The Bahamas' climate

As with most of the Caribbean islands, the Bahamas experiences balmy temperatures and lots of sunshine throughout the year. During the winter months, daytime temperatures average a pleasant 21 degrees Celsius, while in the summer this climbs up to around 29 degrees Celsius on average. Throughout the year, regardless of the season, temperatures tend to oscillate between 24 – 29 degrees Celsius.

What's more, the Bahamas has unbroken sunshine for around 310 days of the year, for approximately eight hours a day - perfect if you'd like to lie back and work on your tan while you're on your tropical island getaway.

Do be aware though, that the Bahamas can occasionally get hit by hurricanes between June and November, which is when tropical storms can occur in the Caribbean. Even at this time of the year, you can still enjoy very pleasant weather, although there's a greater chance of rain and cloud, which are usually short-lived anyway and quickly replaced by radiant sunshine.
